A quiet harbour, stony beach and unexpected artwork.
Heading off to the west, follow the A836 until you see the sign posts for Borgie Lodge Hotel, then take this right turn and follow the road to Torrisdale. Continue past the cemetery, through Torrisdale and on into Skerry. A turning on the right will take you down to Skerry Harbour where there is plenty of space to park next to the pebbly beach.
This wide, often calm bay has a sweeping stony beach and views out to the islands out at sea where you can see ruins of the houses where people lived until the mid-20th century.
At the edge of the beach are old stone ruined buildings and inside here is often a collection of local art.
Walking along the beach, keep an eye out for sea glass in amongst the pebbles. Alternatively, take a stroll along the road to the mooring point to admire the boats.
Notes to visitors with limited mobility:
It is possible to drive up to Skerry Harbour and park directy at the end of the stony beach. There are information boards here, including information about the islands visible out at sea. There is a road down to the pier where the boats are moored and this is suitable for wheelchair access or to drive down.
