Lybster is a village off the A99 from Wick. The village itself is fairly ordinary in appearance but the real jewel is the picturesque harbour below. Enjoy the drive down and then park at the harbour in easy distance of the lighthouse, the rocky beach and the café.
The impression of this place is very much dependant on the weather as it can be blowing a gale with waves slamming against the harbour wall, or it can be absolutely beautiful with deep blue sea under blue sky.
Whilst here, it is worth popping inside the Waterline Heritage Museum. There is information here about shipwrecks and the herring industry as well as a welcome café and toilet.
Notes for visitors with limited mobility:
It is possible to drive all the way to the harbour at Lybster and park next to the café (with toilets).
