If you continue in a southerly direction from Brora, you will reach Dunrobin Castle next, just outside of Golspie. This is a popular tourist attraction, and rightly so, as it is a spectacular castle with extensive gardens and looks like somewhere a fairy tale princess would live.
The stately home is open daily between March and September, with slightly longer opening hours in the summer season. Take the straight driveway from the road to the car park and pay for tickets to gain access to the house, museum and grounds.
It is possible to use a self-guided tour to find your way around the inside of the building, and there is a tea-room and gift shop inside too.
Outside, the formal gardens are beautifully laid out and offer views across the Moray Firth. Falconry displays are run frequently and are well-worth joining.
Notes for visitors with limited mobility:
Due to the historic nature of the building and grounds, some areas cannot be accessed by wheelchair users but the castle welcomes enquiries about accessibly and will discuss how they can help.
