Not far after Bonar Bridge on the way to Lairg, you will see the left turn to the B864 towards the Falls of Shin. This is a tourist highlight in the area and well-worth the detour if you have time.
Close to the falls is the purpose built visitors centre which offers ample free parking and some electric car hook-up points. There is also a play park and mini golf. The visitors centre has a cafe and toilets, which are rather pleasant but be aware that they are not open all year.
The car park is surrounded by woodland and there are 4 marked woodland walks of various difficulty. But the main attraction are the falls themselves on the other side of the road. Follow the path and steps down to the viewing platform. The falls alone are impressive to look at and to photograph but they are made all that more special when salmon are leaping. This can happen any time between May and October, although late summer is the most likely time to see them. Of course, even during this time, you may not get lucky.
Notes for visitors with limited mobility:
The visitor centre is wheelchair friendly but getting down to the falls is by steps.
